The Southside Teen Center now has a beautiful new mural thanks to the combined efforts of some talented artists, the Teen Center staff, and our team at Vital Spaces!
With only ten days before the one year anniversary party, an idea was hatched to brighten up the rec room with a colorful new mural. Acting quickly, we were able to secure the talents of some of the best artists in the city; Perish, Kause, Saba, and John Santos, who dropped everything to get to work. After a few workshops with the teens, they developed a concept to create a postcard-style mural where every letter represented a part of the center: S (sound) A (athletics) N (New Mexico) T (technology) A (art) F (faith & family) E (entertainment). The team of artists then constructed panels to fit the space and began painting at the Vital Spaces Annex Gallery. Three days later, thanks to the passion, professionalism, talent, and raw skill of the artists, the mural was installed and ready to be unveiled at the anniversary party!
Big thanks to Ziarra, the staff at the Teen Center, and Santa Fe Arts and Culture Department for moving so fast on the back end to fund and get this rolling quickly. Another big thanks to Kause’s dad who came with the expertise to cut, measure, help with scaffolding and more. Our role at Vital Spaces was facilitating and providing needed support to pull this all together and make sure that it got completed on time. We’re proud to have been part of this project that brought all this color and vibrancy to our city’s teens!
